Yes, my mind is a very strange place. Not that this is news to you, dear reader.

Usually I presuppose knowledge of one particular slice of popular culture to make the joke(s) work. This one assumes you’ve seen a particular blockbuster popcorn flick and have at least a passing familiarity with computer technology. Oh, and a Sci-Fi TV show meme from the 1960s, but I feel fairly safe about that one.

It’s not that Rei’s terribly fond of bad jokes, mind you. She just takes her responsibilities quite seriously.

Not much of a punchline, but this is where my mind went when I tried to think of a way to use that particular pair o’ ducks. They can’t all be bad puns and pop-culture references, kids.

Those two “shoulder” ducks actually came in a package marked as a pair of “love ducks.” Which is silly, because I’ve never really believed in that whole “opposites attract” nonsense.

Far be it from me to make fun of mindless popcorn flicks, mind you. I’ve enjoyed any given Bond flick far more than, say, any number of the so-called classics of cinema…

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. But look: The memory came in a container the size and shape of what one expects to contain a regular DIMM module. The label sticker covered most of the container. I didn’t know what I’d gotten stuck with until I opened the container, then looked at the label.

So, yes, I know: I should’ve checked the label. But on the other hand… I shouldn’t have needed to. Who the hell spends ten minutes discussing a desktop PC build, helps the customer settle on a motherboard & CPU combination, and then slaps a stick of laptop memory onto the invoice? And since this is Fry’s, you don’t actually get to see the product until it’s being rung up. Grrr.

You know, if you think you’re surrounded by perverts who talk about suggestive things all the time… maybe they’re not the ones with the dirty mind. Food for thought!
