Perhaps a primer is in order. And if you think I’m joking about the sheer volume (ha, ha) of music available, may I direct you to the relevant wiki page? (It’s the “Doujin Albums” section toward the bottom which contains the scary links to long, long pages of music…)
This comic was brought to you in spite of both my laptop and my main home computer getting infected with some mystery malware. I’m the resident expert on fighting this stuff and I’m still baffled by how it got through and why I couldn’t get rid of it, let alone even find it. All I had to go on was side-effects, but no real grasp of what the real infection looked like. After ten hours between troubleshooting the laptop and the desktop, I gave up and started over. This time, I’ll have to be even more paranoid about my Internet usage… hooray. Sigh.

Sorry about your computer troubles. That’s my worst nightmare. What a mess.
I had somehow never heard of this before. There’s even an official Wikipedia page documenting the saga. Fascinating, and that music is certainly lovely.
A crudded-up computer is no fun, sorry you got stuck dealing with that. Firefox + NoScript seems to have kept my PC crud-free for the past few years. For antivirus, I pretty much stick with AVG and run a MalwareBytes and/or Spybot scan every so often just to make sure. If I ever got infected so bad that I had to reinstall Windows, I’d be seriously tempted to contemplate some sort of Eastern ceremonial self-obliteration. So frustrating!
There’s a lot of hit-or-miss, but zeroing in on a few of the remix creators who strike your fancy seems to work. (For me, it’s the folks behind the now-famous Bad Apple!! mix, Alstroemeria Records. But even they are hit-or-miss…)
i feel like a bad nerd for never having heard of this before!
There’s almost no way to have heard of all the cool things out there anymore… the Internets, they are vast and mysterious and full of Things. 🙂
